What Is Produkt Information Management in the Context of DOXAP?

Product information management gives sellers a single place to build and govern their catalog. But getting that data to every marketplace, in the right format, at the right time, requires a different kind of infrastructure.

Defining Product Information Management and Its Role in E-commerce

A PIM, or Product Information Management, is a system that stores and organizes your product catalog: attributes, families, media, descriptions, translations, and category hierarchies. Its purpose is to be the primary source of record for product content, ensuring that everyone in your organization uses the same data.

In a multichannel context, this definition has its limitations. A PIM governs what you know about a product. It does not, by design, govern how that product is presented on Amazon Germany versus Cdiscount France, how stock levels from your warehouse feed into a live offer, or how an order captured on a marketplace flows back to the right fulfillment team. This gap is where orchestration starts. For a clearer understanding of what a PIM covers and where it stops, our overview of PIM fundamentals is a good starting point.

How DOXAP Enhances Product Information Management

DOXAP is not a replacement for a PIM. If you already have Akeneo, Plytix, or a custom PIM, DOXAP treats it as a Source, pulling product data from it via a connector and taking over from there. If you do not have a dedicated PIM, DOXAP's built-in catalog module handles product data, EAV attributes, families, media management, and multi-language translations, so you do not need to purchase a separate tool first.

This distinction is important for operations. Once product content leaves a PIM, each channel typically expects a different structure: Amazon's flat-file taxonomy, Cdiscount's category tree, and a feed format expected by Lengow. Maintaining those mappings inside the PIM or duplicating them across spreadsheets becomes increasingly difficult as the channel list grows. DOXAP manages those per-channel transformations centrally, applies them at the point of sync, and validates data against each channel's requirements before it goes out. This keeps your source catalog clean, while channel-specific formatting remains isolated where it belongs.

Pricing and stock are managed alongside catalog content. Channel-specific pricing rules and real-time stock synchronization from your ERP or WMS are part of the same orchestration layer, not added on separately. You can explore how the catalog and offer layers fit together on the catalog showcase.

A Concrete Bidirectional Data Flow: ERP to Marketplaces and Orders Back

Consider a seller using Magento as their storefront, an ERP for stock and pricing, and Lengow as their feed aggregator, pushing to a set of marketplaces including Amazon and Worten.

Outbound: product and offer data

The ERP sends a stock update and a price change. DOXAP receives both, maps them against the relevant SKUs in the catalog, and applies per-channel transformation rules before the data reaches Lengow. Amazon may require a different category attribute than Worten; DOXAP manages that difference at this step, not within Lengow or the ERP. Each Data Stream, the continuous sync flow for catalog, offers, or stock, includes a health status: Live, Sync, Late, or Down. If a stream degrades, the Operations Cockpit alerts you before it becomes a listing issue.

Inbound: orders

When a sale occurs on Amazon or Worten, the order travels back through Lengow to DOXAP. At the DOXAP step, the order is validated, normalized to a common format, and routed to the appropriate warehouse based on stock availability. The fulfillment team in your WMS receives a clear, actionable record. Because DOXAP sits between the channel and the back-office, it can also mix direct connections alongside integrators: a marketplace connected natively via DOXAP's connector catalog is handled in the same way in terms of monitoring and data flow logic, even if it never touches Lengow.

This two-way flow of outbound catalog and offers, and inbound orders, illustrates what marketplace product information management looks like in practice, and why a PIM alone cannot close the loop.

Key Differentiators of DOXAP in Product Information Management

Configurable per-channel orchestration, not a shared mapping

Generic middleware or feed managers often apply a single mapping layer across channels, which works until channel requirements diverge significantly. DOXAP's architecture is built around the concept of a Channel of Trade, a marketplace in a specific country, each with its own transformation and validation configuration. Adding a new channel does not require rebuilding existing flows.

Direct connectors and integrators in the same layer

DOXAP connects to e-commerce platforms (Magento, Shopify, PrestaShop, WooCommerce), logistics services like ShippingBo, and integrators like Lengow, alongside direct marketplace connections, all managed through a single connector catalog. The operational view in the Cockpit covers every connection, whether it is direct or routed through an integrator. You can see the connection management interface at the connection showcase.

Consolidated P&L including marketplace fees

Revenue figures are rarely useful without fee deductions. DOXAP incorporates marketplace commissions and fees into a consolidated profit and loss view across every channel, so the financial picture reflects your actual net, not just gross sales. That reporting layer is detailed at the P&L showcase.

Flow monitoring as a first-class feature

Data quality problems in multichannel commerce often appear late, after a listing goes down or an order arrives without the right product details. DOXAP's monitoring layer operates continuously across every Data Stream, with health statuses and a prioritized Action Center, so issues are caught before they reach customers. This approach differs from a PIM's validation, which typically runs at the point of enrichment, not at the point of channel delivery.
